Washington Joins Growing List of States Legalizing Marijuana as Market Predicted to Grow to $10.2 Billion

AVT (ticker: AVTC), a leader in automated retailing, micro-stores, custom vending machines and kiosks, commented today on the opening of legal marijuana dispensaries in Washington State.

The state now joins Colorado as the first two in the nation to allow for the legal adult use of marijuana or cannabis.

Experts predict that sales of cannabis in Washington will surpass those in Colorado, which according to ABC News is larger than previously estimated. Washington State has a population that is 33% greater than Colorado’s, accordingly the market is predicted to be proportionately larger.

As more states pass medical and adult use marijuana legislation, the need for systems that regulate and control the substance will increase. Storage dispensing and compliance machines such as the type that AVT builds for its customers will grow in demand.

“One of the things that separates AVT from any other manufacturer is that we partner with some of the most innovative companies in the world to produce new types of systems that redefine entire industries,” Shannon Illingworth, Founder and Chairman of AVT commented. “From a self-service propane tank exchange to a gourmet coffee kiosk that has almost as many options as your neighborhood coffee shop; or an automated eyeglass cleaner and sanitizer; or a hot burrito, freshly squeezed juice, or freshly prepared salad dispenser; AVT is at the forefront of helping design, develop, and launch the most innovative self service systems in the world,” he added. “The marijuana and medicine dispensing machines we build for our clients are another example of how technology can shape the future of industries.”

According to CNBC, the marijuana market in America could top $10.2 billion within a few years.

AVT Develops Automated Store Entry Path For Companies Interested in Self-Service Retailing

AVT, Inc. (Ticker: AVTC.PK) (www.autoretail.com) has developed a unique method for companies and brands to enter the exciting world of Automated Stores. This dynamic market allows retailers and brands to open new distribution and sell products worldwide, with virtually no employees or overhead.

Automated Stores allow consumers to purchase a wide variety of products from a self-service system in locations that are either not served by a traditional store – such as an airport, casino or hotel; or are for use in-store to better promote a brand, control inventory, and eliminate the need for employee interaction.
There are hundreds of automated stores nationwide in high-traffic locations such as Macy’s department stores, shopping malls, supermarkets and airports, selling high revenue-generating items including such as Apple iPods™, Sony™ headphones; Canon™ digital cameras; fragrances like Glo by JLo and Kenneth Cole; Elizabeth Arden beauty products, cell phones and video games.

These automated stores can generate $3,000-$25,000/square foot, compared to the industry average of $300/square foot annually in a typical shopping mall.

Under the new program, AVT can quickly and cost-effectively design and develop a system that is completely customized to meet virtually any set of parameters. This allows owners of the system to place units into the field for pilot programs to test the system’s return on investment and effective on brand awareness.

AVT is able to offer such a program because they are one of the few companies in the world that designs, develops and manufactures turn-key automated stores, with an in-house team of software engineers, mechanical engineers, designers and technicians.

Automated Stores are now the fastest growing segment of the retailing industry because they reduce overhead and increase the number of products sold. According to a recent study, cosmetics were found to sell better at an automated store than at a typical cosmetics counter. When salaries were factored in, the automated store outperformed the employee-based model and provided a higher ROI by a factor of over 100-to-1.

“Our business is booming and we are in a position that we can help many companies get into automated retailing without the typical large development costs,” stated Shannon Illingworth, AVT founder. “Our unique structure allows us to work with retailers and brands to develop affordable, customized solutions that can achieve a wide variety of goals.”

Automated Retailing is the New Low Cost Way to Reach Consumers in Virtually Any Location.

Today, all over the world, upscale automated retail centers offer shoppers the ability to purchase unique items in locations where they would not normally be found.

In the lobby of a luxury hotel stands a machine that dispenses gold bars and coins. In bathrooms at upscale bars, vending machines with hair products enable women to get a mini beauty treatment before heading back on to the dance floor. And at the Los Angeles Airport, people can soon download movies to a portable flash drive that will play on their computer.

But don’t call them vending machines… these automated retailing centers feature stylish architecture and graphics, and have interactive touch screens that entice, entertain, and inform.

What drives this quest for automation? The answer is simple, according to Shannon Illingworth, the founder of AVT – one of the nation’s leading developers of automated retailing systems. “For consumers it’s about convenience and a fun shopping experience. For retailers it’s about lowering costs, expanding product lines, increasing distribution, and reducing shrinkage.”

AVT, which makes some of the newest high tech self-service retailing kiosks, recently completed an order for a beautiful aluminum and glass tower that dispenses electronics such as cell phones, iPods, and portable satellite navigation systems. Illingworth stated that the system is a huge hit – especially with the younger generation.

The economics make it easy to see why. Mall stores produce about $330 a square foot a year, while a 28-square-foot kiosk can generate $3,000 to $10,000 a square foot a year, according to some reports.

Does this mark the end of the retail store? Hardly, states Illingworth. Just as DVDs didn’t end movie theaters, automated retailing won’t replace brick and mortar stores. “We complement the store by offering an interesting variety of products to a captivated audience in locations that are not normally served,” he stated. “We’re the icing on the retailer’s cake.”
